Password Lock is a very handy little program that will allow you to
lock your Windows 95/98 PC with a password and without having to turn off your computer
and use the BIOS password or the annoying screen saver password. Also, Password
Lock can be setup to run when Windows starts up, either in locked mode or hidden.
Password Lock can even shutdown your computer if there have been a certain
amount of attempts! Password Lock is for serious users who keep their computers
on for a long time and don't want other people having access to their machine. When
active, Password Lock disables: access to start menu, desktop and any other
running programs, CTRL+ALT+DELETE, ALT+TAB, and other Windows keys. When Password
Lock is running, there is no way to get passed it! If you need total protection for
your PC while you're away from it, Password Lock is your savior!
Password Lock 1.05 is Freeware, so you can download it for free. Just
click on the following link and choose "Save this program to disk". We need
your support. Please visit our sponsors during the download, that's the only thing we
ask. Thank you :-) PassL105.exe (105 kB)
To install just run "PassL105.exe"
and follow the instructions.
You must close previous version of Password Lock before installation!!! Right click on
Password Lock icon in system tray (bottom-right corner of your screen) and choose "Close
Password Lock". It is also recommended then you uninstall previous versions
of Password Lock before installation.
If you configure Password Lock to shutdown your computer if there have been a
certain amount of attempts, make sure you also configure Password Lock to LOCK when
Windows starts up! It is recommended that you disable "boot keys" during
the boot process (you can do it from Password Lock Configuration dialog or by adding
following line to "msdos.sys" file: BootKeys=0 to section "[Options]").
It is also recommended that you set you hard-disk as first boot device in your BIOS
setup and protect your BIOS from changing by password.
Q: I just install passlock on my PC, But I do not see any configuration to lock
my computer when I leave and its on.
A: You can easily lock your PC when it is on. Just double-click on Password Lock icon
in system tray (bottom-right corner of your screen), or use "hot-key" (default
hot-key is CTRL+ALT+L).
Q: I installed Password Lock but I cannot configure the settings on it.
A: Click the "Start" button, point to "Programs", then point to
"Password Lock" and then click "Configure Password Lock". If you
did not install "Start Menu Shortcuts" (optional component) you can run
Password Lock Configuration from path where it is installed
(usually "C:\Program Files\Password Lock\PassLock.exe").
Q: I was wondering if starting Windows in safety-mode could circumvent your
program?
A: Yes, starting Windows in safety-mode can circumvent my program. This is the reason
why you should disable "boot keys" at startup, when you are using my program.
Q: I was just wondering if Password Lock works on Windows XP.
A: No, Password Lock is designated only for Windows 95/98/ME. It doesn't work on Windows
NT/2000/XP.
